Pregnant Polish Konik horses are claimed to phenotypically resemble the extinct tarpan.Odra Delta Nature Park, close to the village Stepnica in Oder Delta, Poland.

The Konik has been introduced into nature reserves several countries. Genetic studies now contradict the view that the Konik is a surviving form of Eastern European wild horse, commonly called the tarpan.

The nature park is a 1000 hectare private nature reserve owned and run by the Society for the Coast. The land used to be farmland up until the World War II, but changed into collective grazing lands after that.

The Oder Delta is located in the Baltic coast in Germany and Poland. The Oder Delta is a European Rewilding area since June 2015, and the region is unique with a rich mosaic of large wild freshwater and marine ecosystems. It is strategically located on one of the ecological crossroads in Europe. The wild jigsaw of habitats includes rivers, heathlands, deltas, marshes, vast reed beds, forests, wild grasslands and bogs. IThe Oder Delta is rich in biodiversity as well as biomass.
