Restoring water edge and bank side habitats benefits the biodiversity of plants, invertebrates, birds and animals which live on the banks and riparian zone.
River Gowenica is a 16 km long river running to the Stettin Basin in the Oder Delta on the Polish side. The Gowienica river catchment is restored riverine habitat catering a good number of migrating fish such as sea trout, salmon, grayling, bullhead, lampreys and other protected species.
Rewilding Oder Delta is working to support ecosystems around the Stettin Lagoon, particularly along the Ina and Gowienica rivers. River banks are restored, floodplains reconnected, and obstacles removed to enhance fish migration. With a goal to enhance natural water flow, biodiversity, and overall health and resilience of the natural landscape.
